Bethany’s Summer Appointment Calendar

You may have noticed that nothing appears on my (Bethany) booking calendar online when you try to see appointment availability. Summer has me working around a busy activity calendar for my kids and unfortunately, a lot of those activities don’t share their practice/game calendars in advance so many of her weeks will be opening availability week-by-week so we can work around shuttling the kids here and there, watching their summer sports and also finding time to make memories as a family. These kids are only little for a short time. Keep an eye on our social media accounts for week-of availability and schedule Massage Therapy and Lash Lift & Tint services with Ellie in the meantime. (Though her calendar regularly fills several weeks in advance too!) We are thankful to be busy and also thankful for your patience and understanding while I juggle the demands of motherhood and running a hands-on service based business. As a work-a-holic, summer is hard for me because it forces me to step back from the office which is a good thing… allowing me to soak in the summer while my kids are still home. Summer will fly by and the normalcy that comes with my booking calendar during the school year will return in late August.

IntraOral Treatment Massage

As a massage therapist that helps clients manage chronic pain, chronic migraines, tension headaches, I am honored to have expanded my training to further help my clients manage TMJ pain, jaw pain, teeth clenching, facial tension, chronic neck and shoulder pain, sinus/ear congestion.

This treatment has been a great addition to a treatment and care plan for clients that suffer with the above conditions. IntraOral treatment can also be beneficial for people that suffer from sleep apnea, tongue ties, musicians, singers, etc. IntraOral therapy at Haven Wellness blends therapeutic massage techniques that assess muscular tension both inside and outside of the mouth, manual lymphatic drainage, relaxing scalp massage and red light therapy for an experience that helps reduce physical tension and help settle the nervous system. The feedback from both new and established clients has been incredible!

Exciting news! Ellie has expanded her service menu to include Lash Lift & Tints.

Lash lifts are a treatment that curls the lashes up for a lifted and flattering look. A tint helps the lashes look naturally dark for a beautiful no-makeup look. Lash lifts last between 6-8 weeks for an easy low-maintenance beauty treatment. If you wear contacts, please remove them for the service. We provide clean contact cases and sterile solution. Please also arrive without makeup on. Results may vary.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not a new thing but it seems to be really buzzing and finally becoming a sought-after service in the Midwest. It is fun to see and hear more clients inquiring about this service and looking for a reputable service provider.

The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and organs that lie beneath the skin, and it is a critical component of a healthy immune system. The lymphatic system acts like a garbage disposal to the body, helping your body filter out waste and bacteria.

Lymphatic drainage massage, which is sometimes called manual lymphatic drainage, or MLD, involves gently massaging areas of the body to help move lymph fluid to an area with working lymph vessels. In a healthy, functioning body, the lymphatic system collects lymph fluid and returns it to your heart through the lymph vessels and nodes. But when there’s a disruption to your lymphatic system’s process, such as the removal of lymph nodes during surgery for breast cancer, the fluid can collect in your arms and legs, which leads to swelling. The medical term for swelling is edema, so the condition is called lymphedema.

Unlike traditional massage, lymphatic drainage massage uses light pressure to mobilize the lymphatic system, which lies directly beneath the skin.

MLD follows a specific sequence, starting with the main drains in the body, including the lymph nodes in the neck, groin and armpits. The idea is that by massaging an area where there is no swelling, the congested lymph fluid will have somewhere to go because you’ve created space for it.

If you already have a functioning, healthy lymphatic system, the primary benefit of an MLD session will be relaxation.

What are the benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage?

• Relief from neuropathy.

• Stress management.

Few people have negative reactions to lymphatic massage. But some people develop side effects like fatigue, headaches or nausea. What conditions are a contraindication for Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

• Blood clots.

• Cellulitis.

• Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clots).

• Fever.

• Heart Disease.

• Infection.

• Kidney failure.

• Stroke.

There are a lot of great things you can do to naturally stimulate healthy lymphatic flow in your body such as physical activity (activity as simple as going for a walk), dry brushing, swimming, skin tapping.

If you have lymphedema, it is important that you see a specialized therapist, Physical Therapist, and under the referral of your physician. If you have heart or kidney conditions, or cellulitis, MLD is not appropriate for you.

We're almost finished Moving!

Haven Wellness LLC is relocating to a new office. We are almost completely moved in and ready to get settled in on Montgomery street.

We have added Red Light Therapy to our service menu to further enhance our wellness offerings to benefit your skin health, reduces inflammation, improve muscle recovery and more. RLT is a standalone service but pending schedules and availability, inquire about adding a RLT sessions before your next facial or massage appointment.

RLT sessions are $25/each or a 5-Session Package for $100.

Our boutique spa has also partnered with FarmHouse Fresh to bring you ethical and clean skincare and body care products that support your skin and help Rehab animals at the FHF Animal Sanctuary. Somehow, we are already diving into another holiday season.

The most frequently asked question we receive between October and Christmas is, “Can I buy a gift card?” And well, the answer is… we are not currently offering gift certificates. We encourage you to shop our wellness and beauty products for your gifting needs and encourage your friends and family to reserve self care appointments for themselves. Self-care and Wellness services are extremely personal, and it is best to allow each guest to select services for which they feel comfortable receiving.

While we LOVE that you want to gift a massage or facial to a loved one, we encourage you to gift them some wellness products from our spa with a note encouraging them to set aside some time for themselves by booking a self-care service that sounds good for them. We are happy to recommend some incredible products that are a good fit for just about anybody.

Welcome, Ellie!

I am thrilled to announce that Ellie Starlin is the newest addition to Haven Wellness LLC. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Licensed Esthetician. She grew up here in the Creston area and currently lives in Des Moines. She will be offering massage therapy appointments here at Haven Wellness on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for now.

As we allllll know… It is a massage therapist DESERT in Creston. Not enough massage therapists to fill the demand and so I am SO EXCITED to have Ellie joining me to help serve the massage wellness needs of our community.

Therapeutic Deep Tissue and Sports/Orthopedic massage session is where she SHINES and THRIVES. So if you are someone that seeks massage to help manage chronic pain, poor posture, over-use injury, enhance your sports recover, you gotta book with Ellie! While she is capable of providing a great Swedish/Relaxation massage, those sessions are not where her passion lies so I recommend a different provider for Relaxation work. But deep tissue and sports/orthopedic body work - Ellie is THAT massage therapist for you.

Please help me welcome her to Haven Wellness! It is a BIG deal for me to trust someone else to work with me and represent that brand and reputation I have built over my TEN years in this industry. Summer is quickly coming to a close. I love summer and it is never long enough, but I also appreciate the routine and change that comes with a new school year.
